Georges Méliés: Come Dream with me

I had initially heard the famous quote of Méliés “Come dream with me!” from the movie Hugo by director Martin Scorsese in 2011. However, recently I discovered from his wikipedia page a second quote. Unfortunately, I have been unable to verify the quote as the book seems to be out of print and available to me only through an expensive purchase. however, I like to believe that the veracity of the quote proves true as its implications are heartwarming to me.

“Laugh, my friends. Laugh with me, laugh for me, because I dream your dreams.”

At the end of his life Méliés had gone through many troubles. However, his visions for the potential of film proved true in the end. Méliés had seen it could be a fascinating way to communicate dreams between people without getting lost exclusively through words. I hold these words to mean that not only had people seen his dreams but also had understood them. Furthermore he was now able to see other peoples “dreams” and therefore enjoy them. He had passed on his love for communicating dreams to the point that his career now would live on amongst the rest of time even if he was to eventually forgotten by name.

To me, I see this as the ultimate goal. And to know that something like that is already proven to be possible warms my heart and fills me with the courage to proceed down my chosen path.
